governor cuomo and chris christie said it would help their state rebuild. >>> yesterday marked the 71st anniversary of the pearl harbor attacks and many paused to remember the fateful day. in hawaii, a moment of silence followed by a fly-over at the exact time the bombing began. that surprise attack killed about 2400 people and it was the start of the u.s. involvement in world war ii. >>> pearl harbor survivors revisited that day. a 2 is gun salute honored the survivors of the attack. the memories are still fresh for the men there. a 91-year-old was on the uss west virginia when the planes attacked. >> i felt six torpedoes hit the port side of my ship. er to a big hole in there and the ship began to lift. >>> well a beacon on the top of the mount was lit throughout the night to remember the pearl harbor attacks the. light turned on at sunset last night and stayed lit until dawn this morning. the eye was turned off on december 8th, 1941, the day after the attacks so it would not be a guide for enemy planes and if you it's lit just once a year to honor the people who died. >>> the pearl h
. the newark star ledger in new jersey reporting that governor chris christie is going to ask the federal government to reimburse the state for 100% of the cost of rebuilding from superstorm sandy. christie heads to washington on thursday to meet with federal officials. you know, parts of the new jersey coastline, complete devastated by this powerful storm. you know, governor christie estimates that sandy caused upwards of $20 billion of damages. >>> and the atlanta journal-constitution with more information about dozens of children and adults that were sickened by carbon monoxide poisoning at the local school there. at least 49 people were sent to the hospital yesterday. take a look at this. fire officials believe the heating system failed there. finch elementary had no carbon monoxide detectors, either. which, i guess, they're not required in georgia. and many parents complained they were left in the lurch because of poor communication. soledad o'brien will talk to a student, a parent and also a school official. so we'll get lots of sides there. >> also coming up, amazement and dismay.
